CRRC Railcar Facility
Connelly Electric worked with FCL Builders in the Design/Build construction of a new 380,000 SF rail car assembly plant located in the Hegewisch neighborhood in Chicago, IL. The facility has 30 individual rail spurs with recessed assembly pits, a 408 FT transfer table and 4DC traction power static commissioning test rails. The plant supports over 300 cars and has 3 loading docks and 6 drive in doors. The facility also contains a 3,000 FT test track, 3 storage tracks, and 2 standard test tracks for rail car testing and storage.
China based CRRC Sifang America has a $1.3B contract to build more than 800 new 700 series rail cars for the CTA. This project has returned CTA rail car manufacturing to Chicago after a 50-year absence.
